How to Apply Liquid Lipstick Like a Pro

If you haven’t tried liquid lipsticks yet, you’re missing out. You can find many affordable, good quality liquid lipsticks at your local drugstore now. Liquid lipsticks are very different from your normal lipstick and they are a little tricky to apply. Here are my 5 tips on how to apply liquid lipstick like a pro.

1. Prep your lips.

When it come most lip products in general, you want to make sure your lips are smooth and exfoliated. This step is even more important when it comes to liquid lipsticks. Exfoliate to remove any dead skin and flakes. Quick tip: a toothbrush works for this step! Once exfoliated, follow up with applying little bit of lip balm. This will keep your lips moisturized and prevent your lips from drying out.

2. Draw the outline of your lips before filling them in.

The easiest way to apply this product is to outline your lips as if you’re using a lip liner, and then fill them in with one coat. When outlining your lips be extra careful. Use a concealer around your lips for that extra crisp line.

3. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT rub your lips together.

When it comes to your traditional lipstick and lip gloss, you can easily rub your lips together to get the product onto your lips. The formula for a liquid lipstick is completely different. Once you apply the product and it dries, it becomes difficult to blend. Rubbing your lips will cause it to look patchy, streaky, and will start to crumble off.

4. Stick to one layer.

This goes hand in hand with number 3. Once the liquid lipstick is dry, don’t touch it. If you add another layer on top of a dried coat, your lips will appear more crumby. In my opinion, the best way to touch up your lips is to simply remove all of the product and start all over again.

5. Stray away from oil.

Oily foods, lip balms, and basically anything with oil will break down the liquid lipstick. Keep your lips moisturized prior to the application and do not apply anything on your lips afterwords.
