How to Highlight a Round Face

Step 1: Find the Right Product

I’ve found that highlights with a peachy, gold undertones work well on almost all skin tones. My favorite highlighers are the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Glow Amour Glow Boosting Drops in Golden Hour, and the Wet ‘n’ Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Power in Precious Petal. With liquid highlighters, you can lightly dab it onto your face using your ring finger. With powder highlighters, a fan brush works well.

Step 2: It’s All About the Angles

Keep in mind that a highlighting product is meant to highlight and bring forward your facial features. This means that you will want to add a highlight to the bridge of your nose, your cheek bones, under your brows, and a little bit to your cupids bow. The key to highlighting a round face is all about the angle the product is placed on your cheekbones. By starting near your eyes and highlighting in a more vertical-diagonal line instead of doing a horizontal one. This technique will give the illusion of a longer face rather than a round face. Just remember: the more horizontal the highlight is, the more of a wider appearance the effect will give.

Step 3: Set It In Place

Use a setting spray and mist all over your face to keep your makeup and highlight in place. My go-to has always been this one by wet’n’wild.

Highlighting is just one part of the many ways you can use makeup to help define your facial features. If you’re looking to learn how to highlight and contour a round face watch this video.
