Believe it our not, having on the right workout attire is just as important as the workout itself. Investing in quality pieces that are meant to be worn at the gym can make all the difference in the quality of your workout. Whether you’re lifting at the gym, running, or just running errands (that counts as cardio too, right?), these cute pieces can also double down as the perfect athleisure wear. I’ve been doing CrossFit for over two years now. I’ve been doing high intensity interval training, heavy weight lifting, and everything in between. I quickly realized that a plain t-shirt and leggings just wont cut it. So I’ve narrowed it down to these 4 categories.

A Good Quality Sports Bra

If you are going to do a high-impact workout, opt for a bra that will “keep it all together”. If you have a large bust, wear workout bras that have wider straps, wider bands at the bottom of the bra, and is tighter than normal. Size down when picking a sports bra if you can. And make sure you’re picking out the right support based on what you’re planning on doing (ie high impact vs low impact workout bras). Right Pair of Workout Leggings

Sure you can save money by wearing a 10 dollar pair of leggings from Forever21, but that just wont cut it while you’re at the gym. The last thing you’ll want is it tearing during a squat session. A good quality pair of workout leggings should pass the squat proof test. If it’s see through at the bottom of a squat, it’s a no-go. It should also have a supportive waistband and be able to have a full range of motion without having it fall down. High-waisted leggings that don’t roll down during the workout is key. Plus Size Workout Tops

Finding the right top to workout in depends on the actual workout itself. If you’re doing a low-intensity workout, wear cotton. Planning on sweating buckets? Wear fabrics like nylon and spandex, especially during hot summer months. And during the cold winter months, be sure to layer up. For apple shapes, opt for v necks to up the chest area, and find tops with side slits. This makes it more forgiving in the belly area and will flow off the midsection.

Wear Proper Workout Shoes

Did you know that running shoes are different from weight lifting shoes? I always carry two pairs of shoes in my gym bag for that very reason. Wearing the right pair of shoes will make a difference during your workout. Keep in mind that just like cars, your shoes also have a mileage. To prevent injury, consider changing your running shoes between every 500 to 550 miles. Change them immediately if it starts showing signs of excessive wear before then.
